Ballintubber joint-manager Peter Ford acknowledged that Corofin were the masters in yesterday's Connacht club SFC final.

Appearing in their first provincial final, the Mayo champions crashed to a nine-point defeat and Ford said in the Western People: "They're as good a team as we have encountered. They have serious pace, their ball skills are very good and they rarely make mistakes.

"They were attacking us from everywhere and there were problems from everywhere so it was hard to stem the tide. They had serious players everywhere and good management. The effort they put in over the past year has been unreal and they were just a step ahead of us everywhere.

"We thought we had half a chance at half-time where we were lucky to be just three points down, but they moved through the gears after half-time and there was little we could do."

The former Galway and Sligo manager added: "We heard about all the hammerings they gave teams in Galway and they just had too much pace for us on the day. They were too good in too many positions.

"A lot of our lads tried their best, but we never looked like winning the game really."
