Disquiet over Carr's new role

There is some disquiet in Westmeath about Tommy Carr's appointment as coach to the U21 footballers.

The former Dublin captain and manager, who spent three years as Lake County minor manager, will effectively take charge of the U21s, despite the fact that Tom Cribbin was ratified as senior and U21 manager at a county board meeting earlier this month.

The Clane man has since said he would not be in a position to combine both roles until January at the earliest. However, it's believed some clubs are unhappy about the fact that they weren't given a say in the Carr appointment.

The Shandonagh clubman guided Westmeath to a Leinster minor final appearance in 2013, but was heavily criticised in the wake of the team's dismal performance against an Offaly side that was subsequently hammered by Dublin in this year's Leinster MFC.

In other Westmeath news, two-time All Star John Keane has taken his first step into senior management with Maryland, while former Offaly star Tom Coffey has left Tyrrellspass to take charge of Athlone for a second time.
