What a weekend it was for the footballers of Cloughaneely and the Cappataggle hurlers.

Fresh from their victory over Buncrana in the Donegal IFC final on Saturday night, Cloughaneely defeated Castledawson of Derry by 2-14 to 2-11 after extra-time in their Ulster club IFC quarter-final Owenbeg yesterday. A late goal from John McGarvey edged Cloughaneely in front, only for Aidan McElhone to force extra-time with a last-gasp point.

But showing no signs of fatigue, the Donegal men scored three unanswered points in the additional period to set up a last-four meeting with Warrenpoint next weekend.

Meanwhile, Cappataggle followed up their 0-19 to 1-8 Galway IHC final replay victory over Ahascragh-Fohenagh at Ballinasloe on Saturday with a 0-15 to 1-10 win over Mayo senior champions Ballyhaunis in yesterday's Connacht IHC final at Athleague.

Mayo football All Star Keith Higgins scored 1-6 for Ballyhaunis, but still finished on the losing side as Darragh Dolan, with 0-6, fired Cappy to the win.
