"I am undecided on whether or not I'll give it another go"

Down's Benny Coulter. INPHO

Benny Coulter has yet to make up his mind on whether or not he will stick around for a 16th championship campaign with Down.

The mind is willing but the body is telling the 32-year-old that it might be time to bring the curtain down on his illustrious inter-county career.

"To be honest, I am undecided on whether or not I'll give it another go," he admitted to The Irish News.

"I said earlier in the year, when Down were put out of the Championship, that I would definitely be going back at it but as the club championship got to the latter stages, I felt that my body just wasn't dealing with the demands that well.

"It took me an awful long time to recover from every game. People might think this is an exaggeration but it took me four days to get over one match.

"We played Bryansford one Saturday evening in the quarter-final of the Down championship and the following Thursday evening, I was just about coming round for training. I was that sore.

"I don't think that preparation would be good enough for county football any more but that's just the way the body is at the minute.

"I'll make my decision before Christmas."
