Vanquished manager Jim McGuinness was at a loss to explain why Donegal never really got going against Kerry.

Speaking to RTE after the pre-match favourites succumbed to a 0-12 to 2-9 defeat, McGuinness said: "Our energy wasn't anywhere near the semi-final or the Ulster final.

"We wanted to overload Kerry with runners today but the boys just didn't seem to have the energy to do that. We didn't perform to a level today that we were hoping to perform to. That's the reason we lost the game.

"I wouldn't go down the road of individual errors. We'll have to reflect on it. In comparison to our other performances, it was flat. The energy wasn't there and the work rate wasn't there.

"We didn't ask enough questions. We were getting a bit of joy but we needed to push a bit harder and get more scores on the board. The boys owe nothing to nobody, they have given absolutely everything. A joy to work with. I don't have the answer at the minute."

The Glenties man refused to be drawn on his future with the Tir Chonaill men.

"If I feel the hunger and desire is there and if it is we'll make one decision and if it's not we'll make another decision," he added.
