Just as Declan O'Sullivan and Colm Cooper did in 2006, Kieran O'Leary and Fionn Fitzgerald jointly raised the Sam Maguire after Kerry's All-Ireland final victory this afternoon.

After Cooper's season was ended early by a cruciate ligament injury, his Dr. Crokes club-mate O'Leary took over the captaincy, only to lose his place on the team during the season. That left another Crokes man, Fitzgerald, to lead the Kingdom on the field of play.

Fitzgerald and O'Leary lifted the Munster SFC trophy together after the Kingdom's demolition of Cork in early July, something they replicated today.

The task of making the traditional acceptable speech fell to O'Leary, who was introduced for Kieran Donaghy in injury-time. In an excellent speech, he thanked his club for giving him the opportunity to captain the county side in Cooper's absence.
