Mullinalaghta St. Columba's have qualified for their first Longford SFC final since 1952 after holding on for a 2-9 to 2-8 victory over Clonguish in this evening's semi-final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

Goals in the final three minutes of the first half from Aidan McElligott and James McGivney proved all-important as the north Longford club booked a place in the Connolly Cup decider against Killoe Emmet Og on Sunday, October 5.

A Darren Quinn goal had favourites Clonguish 1-1 to 0-0 ahead after 14 minutes, but they failed to score again in the first half as Columba's stormed back to lead by 2-3 to 1-1 at the break.

The winners extended their advantage to 2-6 to 1-2 before a Kevin Burke goal in the 40th minute brought Clonguish back into it. They gradually closed the gap thereafter, but the men from the Cavan border held on for a famous victory.
