The new look Pairc Ui Chaoimh

The Ballintemple Area Residents Association (BARA) has withdrawn its objection/observation to the redevelopment of Páirc Uí Chaoimh and the establishment of a Centre of Excellence by Cork County Board.

A statement released today confirms that Cork County Board GAA and BARA have agreed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding which contains a set of proposals which identify new consultative structures between the parties going forward and address specific issues of concern to residents.

The Memorandum was signed last night by representatives of the Board and BARA and was the culmination of intensive discussions over several weeks.

Chairman of BARA, Patrick Mulley, said residents within Ballintemple were very pleased at the outcome. "There has been a constructive engagement between ourselves and the County Board.

"Both parties have demonstrated a genuine interest in being good neighbours to one another and this memorandum underpins that objective.

"We look forward to a positive, productive relationship with the Board and with the new project in the years ahead."

Cork County Board chairman, Bob Ryan, said he was delighted that the discussions which had been entered into in good faith by both parties had borne fruit.

"Cork County Board has always believed that the Páirc Uí Chaoimh redevelopment and the Centre of Excellence will be a tremendous addition to Cork and to the local area.

"It is our earnest wish that the relationship between the Board, the project and local residents will be excellent.

"We have listened carefully to their concerns and have responded with innovative proposals on how these might be addressed, and how the enjoyment of the new facilities might be maximised for local people.

"The Memorandum lays out how a positive relationship between the project and local residents can be built and sustained and we are very pleased."
