Cahill: standards outside Dublin have dropped

Dublin's Barry Cahill

Dublin's 2011 All-Ireland winner Barry Cahill says standards have fallen outside the capital.

Reacting to Jim McGuinness' comparison of the Dubs to Roman Abramovich's Chelsea, Cahill points out that Dublin are no better off now than they were when he played, but suggests that the rest of the field has weakened:

"What Dublin have in the last couple of years is something they had during Tommy Lyons' era when I started out, so there is not a huge difference there," the St Brigid's clubman told The Irish Daily Mirror.

"It's just the fact that Dublin have won two of the last three All-Irelands that it's sort of highlighted a bit more.

"I think the standard of some of the counties has gone down, which obviously has nothing to do with Dublin.

"Dublin have improved over the last three or four years. The likes of Kildare and Meath, who were so strong sort of ten years ago when they were contesting All-Ireland semi-finals and finals on a regular basis themselves, they don't seem to be at that level.

"And certainly at underage they haven't been too successful."
