Jack keen to bridge 20-year gap

Jack O'Connor challenged his Kerry players to end the county's 20-year All-Ireland MFC famine after yesterday's semi-final win over holders Mayo.

"It's been too long, 20 years," the former senior manager said.

"The likes of Denis Dwyer was on that team in 1994 and sure how long is he retired? It will be a massive one now with a massive build-up and I just hope the whole county gets behind us now."

Kerry failed to convert at least five goal chances and O'Connor insists they will need to be more clinical in the final against either Dublin or Donegal.

"I personally found it a very frustrating game - I thought we were the better team in both halves," he continued.

"That probably wasn't reflected on the scoreboard. We were a bit nervous, and I'm hoping now the next day the Croke Park nerves will be gone out of the system, that we'll relax a bit and play the game we're capable of playing.

"I think we have a right good team, just that in the first half, we forced it a bit. They're human beings, they're very nervous, we settled them down at half-time and we played much more controlled football in the second half."
