Cork County Board is keen to tie hurling manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy down to another spell at the helm.

The Rebel County legend saw his three-year second coming as Cork manager end is disappointing fashion at Croke Park on Sunday, when Tipperary eased past the Munster champions, but chairman Bob Ryan insists JBM has done more than enough to merit a contract extension.

Barry-Murphy led the Leesiders to within seconds of the All-Ireland title last year and masterminded their first provincial title success in eight years this summer.

"He has taken Cork hurling up from a very low base and we have had two very competitive years," Ryan told The Irish Independent.

"I am only speaking from my own point of view, but I would be hoping he will stay."
