August 04, 2014

Raharney's John Shaw.
Leinster League champions Clonkill crashed to a 0-14 to 1-22 defeat to old rivals Raharney as the race for the Westmeath Examiner Cup heated up yesterday.

The championship favourites were on the back-foot from as early as the 10th minute when Joey Boyle's goal gave Raharney a 1-3 to 0-3 lead. Johnny Greville's side extended their advantage to 1-11 to 0-8 at half-time and it was all over bar the shouting when Clonkill had Alan Dowdall dismissed on a straight red card midway through the second half.

Raharney join Donal Franks' charges on six points after four games, as do Castlepollard who enjoyed a 2-9 to 0-7 victory over local rivals Lough Lene Gaels.

Champions Castletown-Geoghegan made it four wins from four after hammering Crookedwood 4-26 to 1-4, while last year's beaten finalists St. Oliver Plunkett's finished strongly to pip Delvin on a 1-14 to 1-13 scoreline.
