Cavanagh: Harte has more to offer

Sean Cavanagh says Mickey Harte has more to offer as Tyrone senior football manager.

Harte has delivered unprecedented success to the O'Neill County during a splendid twelve-year term in charge but the 2014 campaign ended prematurely when the Red Hands were dumped out by neighbours Armagh at the second-round stage of the SF Qualifiers.

"I genuinely don't think the criticism will annoy Mickey too much," Cavanagh says in The Irish News. "I think he's been around the block enough to know what the reaction would be if we didn't win against Armagh.

"The players knew that we were all on a hiding to nothing. Most people expected us to win and when that happens you can expect a massive backlash, and probably rightly so.

"Both the players and the management should stand up and take responsibility. We didn't perform on the day. We didn't play to our potential and Mickey will accept that.

"He's done that in the past and has come back a stronger person for it. I certainly feel there is more left in Mickey and there's more left in this team and, fingers crossed, we'll be given the time to try and get it right."
