Injured Dublin star Ciaran Kilkenny was in Zambia last week in his capacity as a special ambassador for Edmund Rice Development.

Kilkenny has been forced to sit out the Dubs' back-to-back All-Ireland bid after rupturing his cruciate ligament during the league match against Kildare in March.

Instead of sitting around feeling sorry for himself, the 21-year-old has immersed himself in charity work.

Kilkenny was appointed special ambassador for Edmund Rice Development, which supports the work of Christian Brothers and followers of Edmund Rice throughout the developing world, earlier this year. The organisation supports over 40 education, health, human rights and advocacy programmes in Africa, Latin America, India and the Pacific rim.

While in Zambia last week, the Dublin ace visited Mazabuka and Kabwe and met children involved in schools and youth projects run by Edmund Rice missionaries and local communities.

This September, he will speak at a special Big Match Dinner in Croke Park on the Friday night before of the All-Ireland football final, where he enlighten dinner guests about his experiences in Africa.
