Brady says 'tactical fouling' claims smack of desperation

Mayo's David Brady
David Brady believes Cork's claims that Mayo forwards Cillian O'Connor and Kevin McLoughlin are adept at 'tactical fouling' is a sign that they are getting desperate.

Cork manager Brian Cuthbert has described the Connacht champions as 'streetwise', while selector Ronan McCarthy went a step further by claiming they are "good at tactical fouling up front".

"To say that about Mayo just shows how naive Brian Cuthbert is. Mayo and Dublin have taken the game to a new level with the speed they have brought to the game," former Mayo midfielder and Newstalk analyst Brady is quoted in the Irish Examiner.

"Lee Keegan, Colm Boyle, Donal Vaughan and Kevin McLoughlin are absolute flyers and can strip a ball from an attacker at great speed. It's not from physicality, it's a combination of speed and the correct technique in the tackle."

Brady expects the beaten Munster finalists to set up themselves up very defensively on Sunday.

"I think Cork are planning to bring an ultra-defensive plan to Croke Park. They will have watched Roscommon and think that's the only way you can stop Mayo but they should stay true to themselves and play their own game.

"Cork football has always been about attacking football. This latest stuff about the referee and their plans for the game show the management are desperate right now."
