Daly given Dubs deadline

Anthony Daly must decide before September whether he intends to stay on for a seventh season as Dublin senior hurling manager.

Following the Dubs' championship exit at the hands of Tipperary on Sunday, chairman Andy Kettle says he wants to have a manager in place for 2015 before the club championships resume in five weeks:

"Anthony Daly owes Dublin nothing," he tells The Irish Examiner. "He has done a super job but in a kind of wider context Dublin have to look at things. There have been major strides made but it's time we looked at where we need to get next.

"There is maybe a perception that we're further advanced than we actually were. We lost three Leinster finals this year and that has given us a taste of realism.

"What I will be putting to the county executive is the need for a review of where we are at. We've got to a certain point and we need to push on now.

"Anthony could make up his mind before next weekend or four weeks down the line. At this stage we're in late July and I would like the thing settled before our local hurling championships return.

"That would be my kind of timeline. If it's Anthony or somebody else I'd like whoever it is to be given an opportunity to run the rule over what's going on in Dublin hurling."
