Today marks the 10th anniversary of Westmeath GAA's greatest moment when the Leinster SFC title was captured for the first and, so far, only time.
Managed by the late, great Paidi O Se, the midlanders defeated Laois after a replay to end a century-long wait for senior provincial football honours. The Croke Park pitch was transformed into a sea of maroon and white as David O'Shaughnessy became the first Westmeath man to get his hands on the Delaney Cup.
Sadly, the Lake County haven't built on that historic success with Dublin having won nine of the last 10 Leinster finals since then. But the memories of that fateful day on July 24, 2004 continue to bring a smile to the faces of Westmeath supporters who hope it won't be too long before similar glory comes the county's way.
