Grimley wary of Royal backlash

Paul Grimley believes Meath will be like a wounded animal when they face his Armagh side at Croke Park on Saturday week.

The Royals were trounced by Dublin in last Sunday's Leinster SFC final, but Grimley - who was a Meath selector a couple of years ago - has stressed that Mick O'Dowd's men are a lot better than they looked against the All-Ireland champions.

"I will be hammering home the message to the lads that Meath's defeat to Dublin will have no bearing whatsoever on our game. If anything, Meath will come out against Armagh to prove a point and we have to be on our guard here," the Armagh manager told the Newry Democrat.

"We have to be cautious of reading too much into that performance on Sunday. Obviously they were up against the best team in the country at present and there are many teams that Dublin would do that to. So we have to be cautious that that performance was not a true reflection of how Meath can play."

The Orchard men have built up serious momentum in recent weeks and Grimley believes the players are now the reaping the rewards of their efforts on the training field.

"The effort and commitment and the general attitude has been there even a year ago, but it only has come into the shop window I suppose whenever you start winning games people have become aware of it," he continued.

"It has always been there, even during our bad days that we had over the last 12 months, they have always knuckled down, the morale has always been very high and their attitude in training has been superb and they are always willing to work and learn and it is an ongoing thing with these lads.

"I have been impressed myself as they never let you down."
