Roscommon forward Donie Smith is keeping his fingers crossed that manager John Evans will stay on in the role.

The Connacht side's campaign came to an end last weekend when Armagh defeated them in the qualifiers and much has been made over Evan's future.

The Kerry native has stated that he will take his time with regards to making a decision on whether he is to stay in the role or not.

Evans travels from Kerry for training which is a seven-hour round trip and that has to take its toll, but Smith stressed to the Roscommon Herald that it would be a massive boost to the county if he would stay on.

"The average age of our team is 23 or 24. We hope to be back in the gym soon, it's over three or four years that players build up physically," said Smith.

"John Evans eats and drinks football. He has a seven or eight hour round trip to training. We hope he'll stay on but he didn't give any indication to us what he'll do."
