London's footballers have agreed to defer their football boot entitlement to help cover the costs of travelling to Ireland for a preparation weekend on May 3/4.

The cost of the trip, which will play a vital part in the team's build up for their Connacht SFC quarter-final with Galway at Ruislip on May 25, could reach as much as £13,000, but to help make sure it goes ahead the London panel have agreed to forgo their boot entitlement (valued at approx £3,000 in total).

The footballers should still get their boots, however. Provided the London County Board and team's management come in under budget for their expenditure on the team, as they fully anticipate doing, the players could receive their boot entitlement after the Galway game.

"We all know how important the trip to Ireland is and we're prepared as players to do whatever is necessary to go on it," said London captain and the team's GPA representative Lorcan Mulvey in the Irish World.

"The trip to Ireland is very, very important to us. I spoke to a few of the senor players and we just feel that the trip is more important to us than a pair of boots.

"We're fairly confident that we'll be under budget at the end of the year - I'd be surprised if we don't end up getting it anyway."

London manager Paul Coggins said: "I'm very confident that we will come within budget and when we do it has been agreed that the players will receive their boot vouchers. Lorcan and the players have agreed to it - the trip is more important."
