Galway captain Joe Canning is rated as doubtful for their NHL quarterfinal clash against Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.

Canning has yet to appear for the Tribesmen due to his involvement with Portumna as they claimed a fourth All-Ireland club SHC title on St Patrick's Day.

Since then, the All-Star forward has been struggling with a hamstring injury and is in a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of this weekend's clash.

"We will have to wait until the weekend and see how he is. It will take until then. He picked up a few knocks so we will just give him as long as possible and hopefully he will make it," Galway manager Anthony Cunningham told the Connacht Tribune.

"A few others got knocks on Sunday but they have recovered so hopefully will have them all available. We have been playing every Sunday since the middle of January but the lads are in a good place."
