Fitzgibbon Cup: UL book quarter-final spot

University of Limerick ran out convincing 2-23 to 0-16 winners over Mary Immaculate College in Group B of the Fitzgibbon Cup at the MIC grounds today.

The game was effectively over as a contest at the halfway stage when UL led by 1-13 to 0-5, with the goal from Clare's Podge Collins. The winners secured their place in the business end of the competition as Tommy Heffernan bagged the second goal.

Elsewhere, in Group C at NUIG, the hosts finished with four points to spare over DCU, 2-20 to 2-16.

The Galway outfit were 1-14 to 2-7 to the good at the end of the opening 30 minutes.

St Patrick's/Mate Dei, meanwhile, were no match for Waterford IT and ended up on the receiving end of a heavy 1-6 to 5-19 defeat.

In today's late throw-in, holders UCC made it two from two in Group A with a 0-14 to 1-24 win away to Carlow IT.
