Treaty beaten-by-Croke-Park-cowards claim
December 06, 2013
Hawkeye got it wrong during the MHC semi-final.
A leading Limerick officer says the Treaty County's minor hurlers were wronged by "the cowards in Croke Park."
In the most controversial moment of the 2013 season, Limerick were robbed of a perfectly good point during their All-Ireland MHC semi-final clash with Galway at Headquarters on August 18th when Hawk-Eye incorrectly deemed that Barry Nash's early strike had gone wide.
The Treaty boys went down after extra time and their appeals to have the result overturned fell on deaf ears.
"In my opinion the highlight of the year was winning the Munster minor hurling championship in Thurles when they beat Waterford in a replay," Limerick's rep to Munster Council Mickey O'Sullivan is quoted in The Limerick Leader.
"This team then went to Croke Park to play Galway but they were beaten, not by Galway, but by a machine called Hawk-Eye and the cowards in Croke Park, not one of whom had the guts to call a spade a spade and admit that these boys were wronged.
"The referee in his report also left a lot to be desired when he decided that a serious error, which happened that day, didn't even deserve a mention and of course his notebook couldn't be found 48 hours after the game."
