Arcade Fire thank Ruth on the record

October 26, 2013

Dublin's Tomas Brady and Matthew Ruth of Kilkenny
Canadian megastars Arcade Fire have expressed their thanks to Kilkenny All-Ireland winner Matthew Ruth for not leaking their new album online.

In a bizarre story, Ruth was one of two people who bought the band's new album - 'Reflektor' - from Roller Coaster Records in Kilkenny, two days before it's scheduled worldwide release yesterday.

Ruth tweeted a picture of the record cover and word spread on the internet that the album was out and he received numerous requests to post the songs online.

The multi-million album selling band got wind of it and their representatives made contact with Rollercoaster Records, who had sold two copies and they contacted Ruth and another lucky customer asking them to return the records.

A spokesperson for the record store told the Irish Independent the early release was "an honest mistake ... luckily we know all our customers and were able to retrieve the sold albums."

Ruth returned the album and later that day got a phone call from Arcade Fire's lead singer, Win Butler who thanked him for not leaking the album and offered to fly the Cats hurling star to an Arcade Fire gig as a VIP guest.

"He told me how much the band appreciated us not leaking the CD online. He said they had gigs coming up and would fly us over to meet him," Ruth revealed.
