Broken ankle ends Keaney's season

Dublin's Conal Keaney
Dublin have suffered a huge and unexpected blow ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final against Limerick with the news that Conal Keaney was injured in a road accident this morning.

The former county football star was travelling to work on his motorcycle when he was accidentally struck by a van. It was confirmed this afternoon that he suffered a season ending broken ankle and will play no part in Sunday's game in Semple Stadium.

The Ballyboden St. Enda's clubman has been a key member of Anthony Daly's team since deciding to concentrate solely on hurling this year. Dublin have a terrible run of injuries this season, with Stephen Hiney and Tomas Brady both tearing their cruciates and Joey Boland only just returning from a shoulder injury he suffered in the historic NHL final victory over Kilkenny at the start of May.

But this latest injury setback could be the most costly of all.
