Gulf Gaelic Games looks for competing teams

September 09, 2010
Dubai Celts GAA Club are extending an open invite to all GAA clubs interested in taking part in the Gulf Gaelic Games 2011.

The international tournament take place on the 4th and 5th March at the Emirates Sports Complex just outside of Dubai. Teams came from the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa and Ireland to take part in last year's competitions and it proved to be a fantastic weekend of Gaelic Games.

Thanks to the success of the previous Dubai Duty Free Gulf Gaelic Games, this year's event promises to be the biggest yet. The club believe that they are now well on the way to developing the Gulf Gaelic Games into one of the premier GAA tournaments. Teams will battle it out over two days in the different sections of the competition and the strongest teams will be rewarded for their efforts at the end of day two in what are always closely contested finals.

In the GGG 2011 there will be competitions in Men's Football, Ladies Football, Hurling, Camogie, Schools and Underage. The Men's Football will be split into A Teams, B Teams, Social and Vets competitions. The number for each squad will be 12 people.

Added to the lure of high quality competitive action is the attractiveness of Dubai as a tourist destination. Dubai is easily accessible from across Asia and Europe, with cheap airlines running from Asia and direct flights from Dublin, Dubai is a whole lot closer to home than you might think!

In March, Dubai offers a welcome escape from the inclement weather of places outside the Gulf. You're promised azure blue skies, balmy temperatures in the mid-20´s and a wealth of attractions.

There will be a detailed itinerary for visiting teams, so when you're not pitting your wits against the opposition on the pitch, there'll be plenty of other things to keep you busy off it. During the 2010 tournament, visiting teams enjoyed a night at the races, tried their hands (and legs!) at skiing, went dune-bashing in the vastness of the Arabian Desert and had plenty of "craic agus ceol" by night too!

If you're planning any tours or events for your club in 2011 then now is the time to get cracking - the Dubai Celts promise you a tournament you will never forget - even if you don't bring home the spoils! Details of the possible costs and tournament format will be available shortly on the www.dubaicelts.com website.

The club would like to thank our sponsors, Dubai Duty Free, without whom the Gulf Gaelic Games could not happen.
