McGarry urges rethink

Former Mayo footballer Anthony McGarry
Mayo managerial candidate Anthony McGarry believes that the problems within the senior football team must be addressed head on in order for the Connacht side to move on to the next level.
McGarry is one in a list of potential candidates interested in taking over the role of Mayo senior football manager from John O'Mahony, who resigned from the position at the end of this year's campaign.
For too long now, Mayo have been regarded as the nearly men and McGarry, who is a former player with the county knows that a lot of work has to be done in order to shake off that mantle.
"Now is the time to address the ills of Mayo football and take a fresh approach. We need change urgently, but it must change for the right reasons. The focus of this whole process should be on what the various candidates bring to the table in terms of what they will do to change the fortunes of Mayo football," said McGarry.
"We need a whole rethink and a fresh approach. I'd love to get the job and I guarantee that if I did get it things would change. I would not replicate what others have done."
McGarry faces stiff competition from the likes of Tommy Carr, Tommy Lyons, John Maughan and Mick O'Dwyer, all of who have managed at inter-county level.
