NHL 2: Lyng rescues point for Wexford

March 14, 2010
Clare 1-22
Wexford 2-19

A last-gasp Diarmuid Lyng free earned Wexford a deserved draw with Clare in this NHL Division 2 top-of-the-table clash at Cusack Park, Ennis.

Man of the match Lyng landed the free from inside his own half to preserve Wexford's unbeaten record. Clare were dominant early on and led by all of 10 points, 1-13 to 0-6, after 29 minutes with Darrach Honan accounting for their goal. But Wexford finished the first half with a flourish, racking up 1-4 in a five-minute period to trail by 1-10 to 1-14 at half-time.

With Colm Farrell and Harry Kehoe dominant at midfield, the visitors continued to chip away at Clare's lead and after a goal by Lyng in the 56th minute levelled matters, the same player pointed to give them the lead for the first time since the third minute.

Clare, who missed two guilt-edged goal chances, regained the lead through points from Sean Collins, Honan and Colin Ryan, but Lyng scored the last three to rescue a point for Colm Bonnar's charges.
