Ballyhale Shamrocks are the Leinster club hurling champions while De La Salle of Waterford have claimed Munster honours, but a replay will be needed to decide the Ulster club SFC winners, on a day of three senior provincial finals. Ballyhale were on fire early on as Birr, who were beaten in March's All-Ireland final, were unable to keep up with the pace of the Kilkenny men. Goals in the first quarter from Reid brother, TJ and Eoin, saw the Cats' representatives race into a 2-8 to 0-6 interval lead, with Henry Shefflin posting five of those points. Birr staged a fine second half comeback and a goal from Team of the Millennium member Brian Whelahan meant there were just four points between the sides as the clock ticked away. However, Ballyhale steadied and a crucial Shefflin point saw them gain a sixth provincial crown. In the Munster hurling decider De La Salle claimed a first provincial win in what was a game of two halves against Limerick standard bearers Adare. Boosted by scores from former county dual star Conor Fitzgerald, Adare led by 0-5 to no score at the break and stretched the advantage to seven points as the Waterford side looked overawed in their first provincial final. However, they would then outscore the opposition by 1-9 to 0-3 in the remainder of the game as a major from the brilliant John Mullane ignited the Deise men, with late points from the Waterford county man and Thomas Kearney sealing an amazing comeback win. In the only football final of the day Crossmaglen had what seemed a certain Ulster win stolen from their grasp as Ballinderry came from five points down with five minutes left to play to secure a dramatic share of the spoils. Cross finished with 13-men as Michael McNamee and John McEntee were sent off while Ballinderry also lost a man as Conor Wilkinson saw red. The Armagh winners led by two points at the interval and held a similar advantage with nine minutes remaining, 0-10 to 0-8, before Oisin McConville showed great skill and strength to grab what appeared to be a match winning goal. However, Colin Devlin pointed two frees to leave a goal in it and in the final minute of normal time a point attempt rebounded off the Crossmaglen post and in the scramble that followed, full back Niall McCusker blasted home a levelling Ballinderry goal. In the two minutes of added time Ballinderry won plenty of possession but it as Cross who nearly won it as McConville's effort with the last kick of the game tailed wide.
