Canning welcomes closed season

Joe Canning Portumna and Galway
Galway starlet Joe Canning has endorsed the new Croke Park directive which bans all inter-county activity during the months of November and December.
As one of those players in danger of suffering burnout due to his county, club, college and underage commitments, Canning has good reason to welcome the two-month break.
"It is great that the GAA brought in the ban for November and December," said the All-Star corner forward, who recently helped All-Ireland club champions Portumna retain their county title.
"We are off now. We are lucky in Galway because as champions we don't have a Connacht championship (anymore). We can go off now until after Christmas.
"But we wouldn't go totally away from it. Half of us would go mad if we stayed away from it for a week or two!"
