The Leinster Council has announced dates and venues for its 2009 championship fixtures in both football and hurling. In keeping with its recent policy, the provincial body has decided that all but one of next year's first round and quarter-final football ties will be played outside Croke Park. The exception is the mouth-watering quarter-final clash between Dublin and Meath which is certain to pack out GAA headquarters on June 7. It will be preceded by the historic hurling clash between Dublin and Leinster newcomers Antrim. Fellow newcomers Galway, who are due to announce their new manager tonight, will make their Leinster championship debut against Laois in O'Moore Park on May 31. The venue for the other first round hurling clash between Offaly and Wexford has yet to be confirmed. In the Leinster football championship first round, Kildare will face Richie Connor's Offaly in Portlaoise with Wexford awaiting the winners in Dr Cullen Park. New Carlow boss Luke Dempsey faces a trip to Parnell Park to take on Louth and if the Barrowsiders are successful there, they will have home advantage against Laois in the quarter-final. Glenn Ryan will lead his new Longford charges into battle against Mick O'Dwyer's Wicklow in Portlaoise. If Longford are victorious, they will face a quarter-final against Westmeath in Mullingar, while Tullamore will be the venue if Wicklow come through. LEINSTER S.F.C. 1.
