Birr hope to have Whelahan back for final

November 17, 2008
Birr are keeping their fingers crossed that Brian Whelahan will be able to play some part in Sunday week's Leinster club hurling final against Ballyhale Shamrocks. The 'Millennium Man' missed his first provincial or All-Ireland club game for the club since 1991 yesterday when a knee ligament injury ruled him out of the 2-19 to 2-15 win over St. Martin's at Tullamore. The injury, which he suffered in last weekend's quarter-final win over Ballyboden St. Enda's, brought to an end a remarkable 46-game unbroken run. The Offaly champions were also missing key forward Stephen Brown, but he is expected to return from the US for the final against the Kilkenny kingpins.
