Kildare SFC: Sarsfields to meet Celbridge in decider

October 06, 2008
Sarsfields will face Barney Rock's Celbridge in a novel Kildare SFC final pairing following their respective semi-final wins over Moorefield and St. Laurence's respectively. Sarsfields ended Newbridge rivals Moorefield's two-year reign with a 0-6 to 0-5 victory in a dour contest at St. Conleth's Park. Moorefield led just once in the game before three points from rising county star Alan Smith gave the winners a 0-5 to 0-3 interval lead. Conor Tiernan put Sarsfields 0-6 to 0-3 ahead for their only score of their second half, and despite converted frees in reply from Ronan Sweeney and Padraig O'Flynn, they held on for a narrow win. Celbridge will contest their first senior final after they defeated St. Laurence's by 0-9 to 0-5 on Saturday. The Larries were left to rue eight wides in the first half, at the end of which Celbridge led by 0-3 to 0-2.
