'Sambo' overjoyed at Congress decision

October 06, 2008
Antrim manager Terence 'Sambo' McNaughton couldn't hide his delight at the historic decision taken at Special Congress on Saturday to admit both the Saffrons and Galway to the Leinster senior hurling championship. "It's one of the best days that I've been involved with Antrim hurling," a delighted McNaughton said. "I've spoken to some of the players since the news came through and they are also delighted. However, this will not be like flicking a light switch and this will not provide us with a solution to all of our ills and problems. "The real work begins now and I will understand some of the reservations expressed by counties like Offaly and Wexford." Antrim chairman Dr John McSparran was also delighted with the vote, but expressed the fear that they could be paired with Galway in Wednesday's championship draw and if they were to lose that, could then draw the first round losers in Munster. "Ironically, we could end up getting Galway and then you could also draw the first round losers in Munster, so it could be all in vain," he said. However, McSparran did accept that the odds were long on that happening.
