O'Shea defends decisions

Kerry manager Pat O'Shea
Pat O'Shea insists he has no regrets about the tactical calls he made during Sunday's All-Ireland final loss to Tyrone. O'Shea, whose two-year term as Kerry manager is now officially at an end, came in for criticism for some of the decisions he made on the line during the clash with the Red Hands. Many believe his decision not to start Tommy Griffin and the returning Paul Galvin backfired badly, while others questioned why wing forwards Eoin Brosnan and Bryan Sheehan - who both had quiet games - were not substituted sooner. "In the post mortems, you always look at all the detail," the Dr Crokes man said. "If we had put the socks on a different foot, if we had stayed in the shower a bit longer - who is to know? It was an open, quality game. Mistakes were made on both sides." He continued: "We wanted to go direct with the ball. We have players on our team who are very capable of making good decisions with the ball. They do that more often than not. "We wanted to try and vary our game, we wanted to carry ball maybe if it was on, we wanted to get into better positions to see if we could feed our inside line, but sometimes the opposition dictates where you are going to kick the ball from. "Tyrone forced us to kick from a little further back the field. We wanted to get the ball in earlier so we could get it over the swarm of blanket defence. "The ball didn't stick inside, whether it was the quality of ball played in or whether it was the inside defenders who were able to knock ball away."
