SHC semi-finals down for decision

September 19, 2008
The senior hurling championship semi-finals take centre stage on Sunday, with champions Clonkill putting their title on the line against Castletown-Geoghegan, and St. Oliver Plunkett's squaring up to 2006 winners Raharney. Clonkill, who are also the reigning All-Ireland intermediate champions, are hot favourites to retain the Examiner Cup after qualifying impressively for this stage. They hammered the once mighty Lough Lene Gaels by 2-15 to 0-8 in their last outing, and Castletown - who defeated Castlepollard in last weekend's quarter-final - will have it all to do if they are to stop them reaching another final. In the other semi-final, St. Oliver Plunkett's will be attempting to reach the final for the first time after falling at the penultimate hurdle in the last two years. However, Raharney are showing a return to the championship-winning form of two seasons ago and with no football distractions, they are taken to claim a final spot.
