Roscommon's hopes of gaining promotion from Division 2 of the Allianz Football League have been dealt a major blow with the news that All-Star nominee Conor Cox is expected to be sidelined for the next four weeks through injury.

The Kerry native, who was the scoring star of the Rossies' Connacht SFC success last summer, missed this afternoon's FBD Connacht League final loss to Galway with a broken bone in his hand and faces the prospect of missing the county's first three league fixtures against Laois, Fermanagh and Clare over the next three weekends.

Cox was replaced in the starting line-up by Donie Smith as Anthony Cunningham's men suffered a 0-11 to 1-14 defeat to their neighbours in Hyde Park.
