Portlaoise are on the lookout for a new senior football manager after Niall Rigney stepped down after just one season in charge.

Rigney's departure comes as no surprise after he had agreed to take the job at the start of the year on the condition that he and his selectors Liam Dunne, Jerome Stack and Owen Delaney would serve just one season. The former Laois hurler took over from Malachy McNulty - who was recently appointed manager of Offaly side Rhode - and guided 'The Town' to their 12th Laois SFC title in 13 years at the expense of first-time finalists Killeshin in October.

After beating Wicklow champions St Patrick's in a historic penalty shootout, Portlaoise's season was ended by Eire Og in the Leinster club SFC semi-final.

There is already speculation that club legend Brian 'Bruno' McCormack, who hung up his boots last week after a success-laden playing career, will step up to the manager's position in 2020.
