Emlyn Mulligan has reportedly left the Leitrim senior football squad in the wake of the county's Connacht SFC quarter-final defeat to Roscommon.

Mulligan appeared as a second-half substitute for Terry Hyland’s men in their 3-17 to 0-12 drubbing at the hands of the Rossies last Sunday, but according to a report on SunSport, the experienced Melvin Gaels forward has decided to opt out for the remainder of the season.

The 30-year-old helped Hyland's charges to promotion from Division 4 of the Allianz Football League earlier in 2019. They went down to Derry by four points in the divisional final in what was Mulligan's first competitive appearance at Croke Park.

Since making his championship debut in 2008, Mulligan has been unlucky with injuries having suffered torn cruciate knee ligaments three times during his career.
