"You just hear whistles going off left, right and centre"

Tyrone full back Ronan McNamee will be glad to see the back of the advanced mark, which he describes as “a pain”.

The attacking initiative is in place on a trial basis for the duration of the national football league but will not be used in this summer’s championship.

Red Hands full back McNamee feels it makes a defender’s life even more difficult: “You just hear whistles going off left, right and centre,” he told The Irish News.

“It confuses you more than anything else, to be honest. Sure they'll throw another rule in next year and you'll have to adapt.

“It's a pain. As if the game is not hard enough to mark Mattie Donnelly or Cathal McShane without throwing a mark in and giving boys the chance to kick an easy score. The game was hard before and it's harder now.”
