Sean Moran is confident that Mattie Kenny can bring success to the Dublin hurlers.
Kenny is the new man at the Dubs helm going into the 2019 season following the unexpected departure of Pat Gilroy and Moran knows all about his managerial qualities first hand, having collected back-to-back All-Ireland Club titles with Cuala under the Galway man’s watch:
“He did a lot with the club,” he tells gaa.ie. “He’s hurling obsessed, he’s a great manager, and he’s … I don’t know would you call it callous … but he brought us to where we were. He was great, working with him was brilliant. He brought a real belief within the squad, there’s no reason why it can’t be transferred over to Dublin.
“These things happen, there was unforeseen circumstances with Pat’s work, which took him abroad for his work, these are things we can’t control, we’re not going to focus on those things, and we’re just going to focus on what we can control, and try and build on what we had last year to this year.
“Leinster is very tight. We’re just going to focus on getting the best out of ourselves, if we play to our ability, we can compete at the top. So, yeah, it is very close at the top but we’re going to do the best we can to be as good as we can be.”
