Ballyboden St Enda's manager Joe Fortune reckons Colm Basquel would be among the best hurling forwards in the country if he hadn't decided to put football first.

Making his senior championship hurling debut against Coolderry yesterday, the Dublin All-Ireland winning footballer scored 3-3 in a brilliant performance as 'Boden prevailed after two periods of extra-time to progress to the Leinster club SHC final against Ballyhale Shamrocks.

"I spoke to Collie maybe two months after Dublin finished," Fortune told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"He explained to me how much he loves hurling and how he always did the whole way up. We set him a target and today he hit his target. He's that kind of a player who can be very special at times.

"People talk about other forwards around the country and Collie's as good as them. Coming up along, hurling was his number one sport. I just think he needs a little bit of work, he's a bit raw yet."
