The selection committee appointed to find a new Dublin senior hurling manager are expected to have a preferred candidate by the end of this month.

Last month, Pat Gilroy made the surprise announcement that he was stepping down after just one year in charge due to work commitments.

The announcement came out of the blue for many including the players, but now the focus is on finding a replacement for Gilroy.

The two front-runners are current Cuala manager Mattie Kenny and fellow Galway man Anthony Cunningham who was part of Gilroy’s management team this year.

The pressure is on the committee to find a successor very soon as the Walsh Cup begins in December this year with the Dubs starting their campaign with an away tie against Carlow on December 9th, before facing Laois a week later on Dec 16th.
