Cavanagh treated in hospital after sustaining a 'nasty facial injury' in club game

Sean Cavanagh in action for Moy and inset the former Tyrone star with facial injuries after a club game against Edendork.

Sean Cavanagh sustained a broken nose and six players saw red in yesterday’s Tyrone SFC clash between Moy Tír na nÓg and Edendork.

The former ‘Footballer of the Year’ was taken to hospital via ambulance after an incident which occurred during Moy’s 0-9 to 0-10 round 1 defeat.

Six red cards were brandished during the course of the ill-tempered encounter and Tyrone club football is again in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

It follows hot on the heels of the melee that broke out just before the full-time whistle was sounded in Friday night’s IFC clash between Stewartstown and Strabane in Omagh.

In his newly released autobiography, three-time All-Ireland winner Cavanagh revealed the lengths that some opponents went to in an effort to curb his influence and these included biting and spitting.

Moy wished him a speedy recovery in a Facebook post: “Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Sean Cavanagh who picked up a nasty facial injury early in the match and was transported to Craigavon hospital by ambulance.”

Cavanagh's brother Colm, Harry Loughran and former Red Hand star Darren McCurry (Edendork) were amongst the players that were issued with their marching orders.

None were for straight red card offences.
