All Star nominee Paul Broderick accepts that Carlow have no chance of winning the Leinster SFC.

The Barrowsiders enjoyed an excellent 2018 season, securing promotion to Division Three before dumping Kildare out of the provincial championship.

Broderick was their top scorer and his performances have been recognised with Carlow’s first All Star nomination in 24 years.

“We know we’re not going to beat Dublin but, take Dublin out of the equation in Leinster and you have a very competitive championship,” the Tinryland clubman told The Irish Daily Star.

“Dublin are going to be in the final. If you are on their side of the draw, you’re going to lose. We beat Kildare this year and, with most teams, you can beat them on any given day.

“But with Dublin there is no ‘any given day’. That’s a bit soul-destroying. If you thought about it too much you’d go ‘what’s the point?’

“Then you look at the crowd we got to Croke Park twice this year, the crowd we had against Kildare. They’re all people you know. That’s what you care about the most when you’re at our level.”
