The Gaelic Grounds was heaving this evening as the triumphant Limerick hurlers made their return to the county.

The team arrived at Colbert Station before making travelling on an open bus through the Limerick City streets and arriving at the Gaelic Grounds.

Outside the Limerick City train station huge crowds greated the newly crowned champions with tens of thousands more lining the streets.

Within the Gaelic Grounds, supporters gathered since 4pm, with entertainment provided by Mark McCabe of Maniac 2000 fame and the Blizzards amongst others.

Estimates have the crowds in Limerick at 80,000 for the homecoming.

Meanwhile a crowd of 5,000 welcomed Galway's hurlers to Pearse Stadium, with a huge crod gathering earlier when they stopped in Ballinasloe.
