Wicklow manager John Evans believes that we are now seeing the best of his charges following a poor league campaign.

The Garden County finished bottom of Division Four and they were given little chance of causing a surprise against Offaly in the Leinster SFC last Sunday.

However, that is exactly what they did as they proved in extra time to have the greater fitness and ability to take their chances. Their 'prize' for defeating Offaly is a provincial quarterfinal against the defending All-Ireland champions Dublin.

Evans is not looking that far yet and is keen to praise the work that his players have put in over the last few weeks.

"The league didn't really do us justice at all. We were taken out by Carlow and Laois and fair enough they were better teams than us on the day. But we are a growing team," Evans told the Wicklow People.

"In the last few games in the last few months we've played a few teams where we have begun to score 15 and 17 points and we knew our game was coming and I just felt that the team were beginning to get that bit of confidence."
