Farrell and Walsh deemed surplus to requirements

Kilkenny's Jonjo Farrell and Michael Walsh.

Jonjo Farrell and Michael Walsh have been dropped from the Kilkenny senior hurling squad ahead of the start of this year's Allianz HL Division 1 campaign.

According to The Irish Independent, Brian Cody - who will not face sanction after being sent to the stand during last Saturday's Walsh Cup final defeat - has deemed the experienced duo surplus to requirements.

Injury has curtailed Farrell's contribution to the Cats in recent seasons while Thomastown clubman Farrell has failed to build on an impressive 2016 championship campaign which saw him crowned Leinster Hurler of the Year.

Question marks also hang over the future of 2015 All-Star Ger Aylward in the black and amber jersey.

Cody and his management team are currently working with a provisional panel of approximately 50 players.
