Roscommon selector Ger Dowd has stressed that promotion back to Division One is very much in their thoughts.

The Rossies host Meath at Dr Hyde Park on Sunday afternoon in the opening round of the NFL Division Two campaign as they embark on a new season following their relegation last year.

Dowd told the Westmeath Independent that the players want to get back up to the first division having sampled what life is like there for the past two years.

"The lads are hungry for success; they got a taste of it last year and they are eager to continue their winning ways. One of our goals this year is to get into the reckoning for promotion," said Dowd.

"We feel it is well within our sights and if we work hard over the campaign, then its something we should be able to attain. There's a long road ahead, however, and we'll be taking it one game at a time."
