DkIT set-up a first round date with DCU next week after seeing off Trinity College by 1-18 to 0-10 at Santry Avenue tonight.

David McGivney's first-half goal helped propel the Trench Cup holders towards an unassailable 1-13 to 0-4 lead at half-time with the Dublin students only managing to keep matters close for the opening 10 minutes in this one.

Trinity were reduced to 14 men in the second-half with the dismissal of Eoin O'Neill but with the scoreboard reading 1-16 to 0-7 it made little difference at that juncture, as the Dundalk lads moved on comfortably towards a meeting with DCU next Wednesday night.

In Athlone, Garda College hit AIT for seven goals to usher themselves into the first round proper against UCC.

Cavan Gaels' Declan Meehan, Ciaran Russell (2) and Clare star Eoin Cleary (penalty) were amongst the goal-scorers for the victors whom trounced the home side by 7-10 to 0-11 in the end.

They'll face UCC next Wednesday night at a venue yet to be decided.

Earlier in the day, UCD booked their spot in the quarter-finals with an impressive 2-15 to 1-6 victory over Maynooth University.
